Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists, or physicians (without a modifier) in Commonwealth nations. Internists are especially skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated ormulti-system disease processes. Internists care for hospitalized and ambulatory patients and may play a major role in teaching and research.
Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of infants, children, and adolescent, and the age limit usually ranges from birth up to 18. A medical practitioner who specializes in this area is known as a pediatrician, or paediatrician. The word paediatricsand its cognates mean healer of children.
